BlindSA experience with the Tshwane Bus Rapid Transit system
29 JULY 2019
The City of Tshwane’s A Re Yeng Bus Service took BlindSA on an experience tour of the Bus Rapid Transit system on Sunday, 28 July 2019. The purpose of the tour was to showcase the efforts made by A Re Yeng to ensure that the system is universally accessible.
The tour afforded A Re Yeng an opportunity to showcase its many elements that have been designed and built to enable people with visual impairments to safely and comfortably use the system. It also served as a channel to listen to the challenges experienced by residents when moving through the City.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Roads and Transport in the City of Tshwane, Councillor (Cllr) Sheila Lynn Senkubuge, has expressed the fundamental importance of providing a fully accessible and inclusive transport system.
“Universal access is a key design element of our Bus Rapid Transit system that ensures that all sections of our society are able to travel throughout the City, providing people with easy access to educational and employment facilities as well as social events,” said MMC Senkubuge.
