Moeggesukkel is set to provide food support to the needy
Today, 20 December 2018, the charity organisation and reconciliation center, Moeggesukkel, will provided about 200 kg of mealie meal and 50 boxes of meat to a segment of the homeless that is experiencing a serious shortage of food supplies at 9h30, 1141 Erasmus Ave, Raslouw in Centurion.
The unavailability of food supplies is situation that repeats itself annually, especially during the month of December, when Non-profit Organisations (NPOs) who usually provide food close down for the Christmas holidays. Without the support of Moeggesukkel a large number of homeless beneficiaries would have to approach the festive period without expectations of a decent meal.
Moeggesukkel was established in 2011 to uplift people who are “down and out” and have to fight and try to overcome the challenges of life. Moeggesukkel, believes in giving HOPE – Helping Other People Excel. The charity organization achieves this by teaching the individuals skills so that they become employable and contribute in a positive way to society. Through this approach, Moeggesukkel creates opportunities for its beneficiaries to be reintegrated into society.
Although Moeggesukkel operates a tight budget, it is not only dependent on donations from the public and organisations, the charity actively runs various projects aimed at capacitating its beneficiaries and teaching them the necessary skills. In this regard, the charity has established various entities where the public can support them by just making use of the product and services they offer. Over the past seven years a fully RMI registered Mechanical workshop – MGS Auto, Panelbeating – MGS Autobody, Towing – MGS Towing, MGS Movers, Butchery – MGS Meats, MGS Maintenance and MGS Training Entities have been established. In addition, there is a catering entity which feeds about 200 people daily on the streets of Centurion and Pretoria East.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health, Cllr Sakkie du Plooy, who facilitated the food supplies handover, commended Moeggesukkel for the excellent work this organisation is doing in the community. He also expressed his gratitude towards farmers and other organisations who provide donations to Moeggesukkel on a regular basis. According to Du Plooy the success of Moeggesukkel can to a large extent be attributed to effective management and an approach of not relying on government to keep the NPO afloat.
“It is better to teach a person to catch his own fish and become independent than to provide him with a fish and he/ she remains dependent on your support for the rest of his or her life”, said Du Plooy. He also applauded the initiative of Moeggesukkel to reach out to other communities and NPO’s – by not only focusing on its own beneficiaries. “This food donation to the homeless is a very good example of a sharing and caring organisation”, conclude Cllr Du Plooy.
