Martin Bester’s ‘Vir Die Liefde’ tour finale concert
Award-winning Jacaranda FM breakfast show host and singer, Martin Bester’s Vir die liefde tour will be culminating in a scintillating final event where the concept first started – Jacaranda FM’s head office in Midrand – this Friday, 21 September, all in support of the Midrand SPCA.
The concert will take place between 16:30 and 19:00 and entrance will be free, but attendees are encouraged to donate animal food to help the SPCA during the upcoming festive season, when they typically experience a massive influx of animals.
“We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the love and support we received on this tour”, Martin says, “I know for a fact that Jacaranda FM has the most generous listeners of any radio station in South Africa and we are truly grateful for every person who came out to watch us perform and donate a blanket – it made a massive difference to someone in need.”
“We are also super amped for Friday’s final performance at Jacaranda FM and we’re looking forward to packing it to capacity in support of our friends at the SPCA.”
Following the release of his debut Afrikaans album, Vir die eerste keer, which features hits like Ek het geweet, Sterre, Wat weet ek tog and Hier om te bly, Martin decided in May 2018 that he and his band would set out to visit a series of cities and towns to play rocking good tunes for a fantastic cause – collecting blankets during the winter months for those in need.
He opened the lines to listeners to ask where they would like him to perform, as well as what they would like the tour to be called. Shows would be free, but those attending would have to bring as many blankets as they could for people in need over the desperate winter months.
This was met by overwhelming support, with listeners from all over Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North West inviting him to perform at anything from big local venues and events, to clubs and pubs, malls and even their homes!
From a long list of very creative names suggested for the tour, the choice landed on Vir die liefde (For the love), which reflected the heart of Martin’s music, the giving nature of Jacaranda FM’s listeners and the quest to bring winter warmth to those less fortunate.
People flocked in their thousands, blankets in hand, to concerts in, amongst others, Pretoria, Hartebeespoortdam, Rustenburg, Kirkney, Dullstoom, Emmarentia Dam, Hoedspruit, Polokwane, Secunda, Emalahleni, Haenertsburg and Deben.
