Makhura ‘to make Pretoria an Automative Hub’
“Our goal is to position Pretoria as the hub of the automotive industry in Gauteng.”
Gauteng premier David Makhura has promised to making Pretoria an automotive hub.
Delivering his state-of-the-province address (Sopa) at Sefako Makgatho Health and Sciences University in Ga-Rankuwa on Tuesday, Makhura said over the next decade he was set on developing the economy and creating more jobs.
He said the only way to create jobs was to focus on the high growth sectors and for Tshwane, he identified the automotive sector as key to unlocking new jobs.
“Our goal is to position Tshwane’s economy as the hub of the automotive industry in Gauteng.
“In support of this vision, Tshwane’s current pipeline of investment projects includes the expansion of the BMW and Nissan plants, development of the new Auto City in Rosslyn, the creation of the automotive special economic zone, the Menlyn Maine development, the renovation of Babelegi, Ga-Rankuwa and Ekandustria industrial parks,” said Makhura.
He said collectively, these projects would bring in at least R50-billion in investment into the metro economy this decade.
His plan of action for Pretoria also included an investment in agriculture, agro-processing, defence, aerospace and aviation.
