Load Reduction Alert from Eskom on Certain Areas
Eskom has announced the implementation of load reduction measures in specific areas of Tshwane to safeguard electrical infrastructure from the impact of illegal connections and electricity theft.
Key Details:
- Purpose: To prevent damage to transformers and mini-substations, ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the long term.
- Timing: Load reduction will take place during peak demand periods:
Morning: 05:00–09:00
Evening: 17:00–22:00
Affected Areas:
- Ga-Rankuwa: Units 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 16, 17, 20, 23, 25; Ga-Rankuwa Part 4 SP and NU; Ga-Rankuwa View Ext 1
- Mabopane: Blocks B, C, D, U, X, S, M, EW, CV; Mabopane U, R, Ext 18, and Part 19 SP
- Winterveldt: Wards 2, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13; Winterveldt Ext 3
- Other Areas: Hebron, Soshanguve Ext 1, Kopanong Ext 1, Zithobeni Ext 1, 2, SP, Cullinan, and Cullinan Outlying

What Is Load Reduction?
Eskom spokesperson Amanda Qithi clarified the difference between load reduction and load-shedding:
- Load-shedding: A nationwide effort to balance electricity supply and demand.
- Load reduction: A localized strategy targeting areas with high rates of illegal connections and electricity theft to prevent infrastructure damage.
Residents in affected areas are urged to plan accordingly to minimize disruptions during these periods.
