Lights will bring safety in the east
The streetlight teams are currently deployed at different sites including, but not limited to, Lynnwood Glen, Lynnwood Ridge, Equestria, Wapadrand and Silver Lakes.
The Tshwane metro has kicked off a streetlight repair programme that should see some of the city’s major roads illuminated.
Non-functional streetlights have been a problem in many parts of the east of Pretoria with some residents raising concerns about safety.
Some of the major streets affected include Windsor Street between Atterbury Road and Jacqueline Drive, Lynnwood Road between Simon Vermooten and Albeth streets and Oberon Street between Atterbury and Glenwood roads.
Municipality spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said public lighting maintenance contractors were appointed in January this year.
“The streetlight teams are currently deployed at different sites including, but not limited to, Lynnwood Glen, Lynnwood Ridge, Equestria, Wapadrand and Silver Lakes,” he said.
“Main routes already attended to include Solomon Mahlangu, Lynnwood, Graham and Boschkop roads.”
Last year, in his maiden speech, embattled Tshwane mayor Stevens Mokgalapa committed to getting “basics” right, such as switching on streetlights.
