Jackal Discovered in Pretoria Shop Bathroom
Employees at a Pretoria safety supply store were stunned to find a black-backed jackal hiding in the ladies’ bathroom.
What began as a routine Tuesday morning quickly turned extraordinary when staff opened the door to the ladies’ bathroom and came face-to-face with the wild visitor.
The jackal had apparently slipped into the building overnight, leaving workers scrambling to call for assistance.
Brendon Murray from the Owl Rescue Centre arrived promptly, using a net to safely capture the frightened animal. It was later released into a nearby nature reserve, unharmed and back in its natural environment.
Murray noted that such encounters are becoming more frequent as Pretoria’s urban expansion encroaches on wildlife habitats. Residents often report hearing jackals along the city’s greenbelts and the ridge behind Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
