Hatfield Car-Free Festival
As a member of the Hatfield community, The Fields is proud to be involved with the annual car-free festival taking place tomorrow, 17 October.
The street closure urges students, businesses and residents of the Hatfield area to make use of public transport for one day. This festival ties in with transport month, an initiative by the national department of transport and organised by the Hatfield Central Improvement District (CID). For a programme of the day’s events, please see attached.
A portion of Burnett Street (between Grosvenor and Festival Streets) will be cordoned off between 06:00 – 19:00 on Thursday, 17 October for the festival which promises to bring stakeholders from all sectors to enjoy the day.
City Property manages The Fields, a leading mixed-use development, where the festival will be hosted.
According to the property management agent, Hatfield still has a lot to offer and is urging the community to come and support the various partners on the day.
“With the A re Yeng and Gautrain busses on your doorstep, we look forward to welcome people from surrounding communities as well.
“This is the second year the CID is implementing the car-free day and we applaud them for taking the initiative to show how easy it is to get around using public transport and also the importance of spending time with other members of the Hatfield community,” said Jeffrey Wapnick, managing director of City Property.
Part of the formal programme is a non-motorised transport indaba whereafter the MMC for Roads and Transport, Ms Sheila Senkubuge will be opening the festival. For enquiries about the formal programme, please contact Danie Basson on 083 778 7272.
