“The Voortrekker Monument parkrun is the first parkrun launched in Pretoria since the 28th September 2013.”
More than 800 residents of Pretoria took part in the Voortrekker Monument parkrun on Saturday morning.
They participated in the 5km fun run/walk and more through the beautiful surroundings of the Voortrekker Monument.
The gates opened at 06:00. The fun run/walk started at 06:30.
Ingrid Hauger, ambassador of the Voortrekker Monument parkrun, said the Voortrekker Monument parkrun is the first parkrun launched in Pretoria on the 28th September 2013.
The theme for parkrun is, It’s Tutu’s Day
“Sadly, in January 2017, the parkrun closed down for a short while, but reopened in 2018 to everyone’s excitement, with the assistance of the Voortrekker running club and Peter Wilgenbus,” she said.
On 15 February 2020, the Voortrekker Monument celebrated their 200th parkrun event, incorporating World Pangolin Day and Valentine’s Day to make it a happy occasion for all.
“Almost 700 parkrunners – and walkers – joined the sea of pink and red – heading out for a 5km run that boasts some of the best views of the Pretoria.”
She said volunteers organised the free, weekly, 5km-timed run around the world at over 2 000 events and are open to everyone, with the focus on being safe and easy to partake in.
