Eskom Electricity Components Maintenance Work to Affect Palmiet and Mapleton Water Supply System Operations
Rand Water has informed the City of Tshwane about the planned maintenance by Eskom on a transformer supplying the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, which may impact water supply within Rand Water’s distribution network on Wednesday, 21 January 2024.
The maintenance is conducted to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
During this period, the pumping capacity of the Palmiet system will be reduced by 23%, and the pumping capacity of the Mapleton system will be reduced by 25%. The maintenance is scheduled to start at 08:00 and be completed at 15:00.
Residents within the city’s Region 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 jurisdictions are thus cautioned about the anticipated low water pressure in the system on the said day.
During this period, the city wishes to remind residents to adhere to the following water-conservation measures:
- Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.

Residents are urged to continue using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets. Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed.
