DA Raises Alarm Over Alleged ANC ‘Cadre Deployment’
Tensions are escalating in Tshwane as the Democratic Alliance (DA) accuses the African National Congress (ANC) of orchestrating a calculated plan to reintroduce cadre deployment in the capital’s administration.
DA Tshwane caucus leader Cilliers Brink has expressed grave concern over what he describes as a systematic effort to purge senior, apolitical officials and replace them with politically aligned individuals loyal to the ANC.
Brink warns that such a move would reverse hard-won governance reforms aimed at fostering merit-based appointments and professional public service in Tshwane. “We are seeing the early signs of a politically driven purge disguised as due process,” Brink stated. He believes this will undermine years of progress made in stabilising governance and depoliticising the metro’s administration.
The ANC, however, has rejected these claims, dismissing them as baseless fearmongering. ANC representatives maintain that any administrative changes underway are strictly within legal and procedural boundaries, aimed at ensuring accountability and efficiency, not political interference.
This comes amid growing national debates about the contentious issue of cadre deployment, with critics arguing it erodes institutional integrity, while supporters claim it ensures alignment between government structures and political mandates.
For residents of Tshwane, the outcome of this power struggle could have significant implications for service delivery, governance stability, and the overall independence of municipal operations.
