Rietvalleirand residents and those in the surrounding areas should prepare for a potential eight-hour water supply interruption 6 December 2023
Rietvalleirand residents and those in the surrounding areas should prepare for a potential eight-hour water supply interruption on Wednesday, December 6, due to scheduled maintenance. Lindela Mashigo, the spokesperson for the metro, announced that essential maintenance work will be conducted on a 100mm pipe in the water supply network at Portion 475, Rietvalleirand 337-JR. The maintenance is scheduled to take place from 08:00 to 16:00, and there may be an interruption in the water supply during this period.
He added that the following areas may be affected:
- East of Delmas Road
- West of Atterbury Road
- South of De Villeboi
- Maruil Road
He said that the city apologizes for any inconveniences that may be caused by the water supply interruption.
In addition to urging residents to continue using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets, he added that residents should make the following water-conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle:
- Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
- Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
- Do not fill swimming pools.
Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed, and water leaks, burst pipes, and all incidents where water is wasted should be reported.
Residents should also make water conservation part of their everyday lives by following the following water-saving tips:
- Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.
- Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
- Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in gardens.
- Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
- Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
- Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
- Take a short shower rather than a bath.
- Close a running tap while brushing your teeth or shaving.
- Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
