In an attempt to get more customers to pay their municipal accounts, the Tshwane metro has provided direct engagements with its financial services department through a virtual outreach program.
Tshwane finance MMC Mare-Lise Fourie said the employees from the group financial services would engage residents via Zoom to ensure customers’ safety during the Covid-19.
“The shift to virtual communication is necessary to cater to customers who require direct engagement with revenue officials while preserving Covid-19 protocols,” Fourie said.
“The virtual outreach program continues for September, due to the positive response the program is receiving from customers and businesses in the city.”
Fourie said the finance department officials would be assisting customers with queries related to account and billing queries, and corrections of estimations, credit control and assistance with repayment arrangements, property rates queries, indigent-related queries and registration, water meter queries, electricity, and prepaid metering queries.
- Monday to Fridays from 16:00 until 19:00.
- Saturdays from 08:00 until 15:00 (4, 11, 18, and 25 September 2021).
- Closed on public holidays and Sundays.
“Customers should have their account numbers at hand when logging in on the Zoom platform.”
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said SPAR store pay points, would be accepted by Tshwane as payments.
The announcement comes after residents were inconvenienced, last month, when they were not able to pay their municipal bills at the Post Office and SPAR outlets, due to technical problems.
“The suspension comes as a result of technical challenges experienced in processing payments made through the two outlets,” said Mashigo.
Mashigo said SPAR outlets now accepted payments of municipal services accounts, rates, and levies at its stores on behalf of the city.
He said residents could make use of available third-party payment systems at E-Tshwane, EasyPay outlets including SPAR, Shoprite, Checkers, ABSA, Standard Bank, Nedbank, or FNB.
