Eskom Warns Possible Loadshedding at Short Notice
POSSIBLE LOAD SHEDDING POWER ALERT 1 UPDATES
Due to a shortage of generation capacity, Stage 2 load-shedding might be required at short notice during the evening at 16:00 – 24:00 tonight
The breakdowns of a generation unit each at the Majuba, Tutiuka and two at Kriel power stations have put a severe strain on the power generation system. Eskom cautions the public that Stage 2 load-shedding would be required to be implemented at short notice this evening at 16:00 – 24:00 should any further significant breakdowns occur.
The delay in returning two generation units at Arnot, a unit each at Kusile and Hendrina power stations has exacerbated the electricity generation constraints.
We currently have 4 479MW on planned maintenance, while another 12 951MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
We, therefore, urge all South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly, especially during these uncertain times on the power system. Eskom will promptly communicate should a need arise.
