13th Avenue Bridge in Gezina Undergoes Astonishing Transform
Over the past three weeks, significant changes have been taking place on the 13th Avenue bridge in Gezina. The ambitious endeavor, known as the Moot Project, has been diligently working on scrubbing, preparing, applying the base coat, and repairing walls to breathe new life into the bridge.
The Moot Project has garnered increased support from residents who share their commitment to cleaning and beautifying the Moot area. This week, their attention has been focused on giving the 13th Avenue bridge a much-needed makeover.
Prior to the bridge transformation, the project dedicated a few weeks to fundraising efforts. Now, with the project’s skilled artists and workers fully engaged, the bridge is undergoing a remarkable metamorphosis.
Passing vehicles have been showing their appreciation with waves and honks, providing the project members with a tremendous sense of motivation and encouragement. Planting an abundance of greenery and enhancing the sidewalks’ aesthetics are among the Moot Project’s key objectives. They express deep gratitude to all the generous donors who have contributed plants to the project thus far.
Sandra, one of the project representatives, wholeheartedly embraces her passion for the project by diligently planting each beautiful plant that is received. Those interested in contributing aloe vera, figs, or bacon trees are welcome to drop them off at Tuinhoekie, as announced in a Facebook post by the Moot Project.
In addition to the bridge renovation, the project team has also taken on the task of revitalizing two dilapidated power boxes. Their long-term vision extends beyond the bridge, aiming to rejuvenate the entire Moot area over time.
The project’s Facebook post emphasizes the importance of residents’ active involvement in order to expedite the uplifting of specific areas within the Moot. Recognizing that progress takes time, they draw a parallel to the proverbial saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
Meanwhile, several ongoing projects are making headway in the western part of the Moot. These include the cleaning, rehabilitation, and painting of the bridge on 13th Avenue in Gezina. Temporary workers from the Moot Project will be collaborating with Liezel Assman, the area representative of Mayville, for six days, from June 19 to 21 and June 26 to 28, to clean and enhance Mayville, as well as other areas.
Negotiations are underway with the metro to partner with the Tshwelopele team in cleaning the Apies River’s low water bridge area. Additionally, discussions are taking place to join forces with Sam Moimane and Marchell le Roux from Tshimologo Care Centre of Capital Park, providing valuable advice on the cleanup efforts in that area.
The project’s area representatives in Capital Park and Mountain View have been actively involved in various projects throughout the year, diligently working to enhance their respective areas.
