In a relatively short time Vanes-Mari has managed to become a recognized name in the game and in the South Africa sport world. At the age of 21 Vanes-Mari joined the National Team, and she is currently studying Human Resource Management at the University of Pretoria.
ShowMe Pretoria asked Vanes-Mari du Toit a few questions about her love for the game, Pretoria and her plans for the future!
What motivates you?
My biggest motivation is what Jesus did on the cross so that we can have life in abundance. Secondly my team, my family and friends, and last but not least, my country!
How do you get ready for a game?
I pray, listen to some of my favourite music, and try not to think too much about the game.
Favourite shop, coffee cafe & bar in Pretoria?
- Favourite Shop – Brooklyn Mall and all its contents.
- Favourite Coffee Cafe – +27 in Hatfield, Duncan (Jan Shoba) Street, and Papa’s in Prospect Street.
- Favourite Bar – Eastwood Tavern in Eastwood Street
When you’re not on the road or working, what do you do for fun?
I love spending quality time with my friends and family, going to the movies, visiting the driving range.
What do you think is the best kept secret in Pretoria?
Definitely Bravo’s Pizza, Corner of Duncan (Jan Shoba) and South Street. Most AMAZING Pizza ever.
What’s your number 1 must see Pretoria tourist attraction?
Cliché I know, but it has to be the State Union Buildings. It’s such a beautiful place and so rich in history.
What are your future plans?
I’m almost finished studying, would love to further my degree in Business Psychology and eventually start my own business. Hope to be playing netball full time as a Professional sport in South Africa.
Do you have any advice for young athletes?
Beginnings are usually scary, endings are usually tough, BUT it is the middle that counts. Remember to turn your stumbling blocks into stepping stones. And always know where your strength comes from. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Work Hard!
