UniRank has released the Top 200 Universities list in Africa for 2021. UP has been recognized as the second-best university in Africa.
UP, which has more than 45 000 enrolled students, is also famously known for its outstanding participation in sports.
They ranked in the top 70 in the world for sports and sports-related academics.
The ranking bases its selection on whether the university offers undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications.
The university has to be accredited by the higher education organization of a country.
It is also based on whether the university can offer distance and contact learning.
Dr. Mxolisi Masango, the Deputy Director of the Department of Institutional Planning and Research and Analytics, said that the ranking also shows an improvement in the quality and impact of research produced by UP academics.
