Swift Response Prevents Devastating Bus Fire Spread in PTA
In the early hours of Monday, 14 April 2025, the City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department sprang into action after receiving a fire alert involving two buses on WF Nkomo Street, near Zeiler Street, in Pretoria West.
At approximately 05:01, the City’s Emergency Communication Centre received the distress call, prompting the immediate dispatch of firefighting teams from both the Central and Philip Nel Park Fire Stations. Responding units included two fire engines, a video unit, and a district commander’s unit.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two privately owned buses parked on the roadside—one of which was already fully engulfed in flames. The second vehicle, parked closely behind, was at risk as the blaze rapidly advanced. Through quick, coordinated efforts, the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control before it could cause significant damage to the second bus, which sustained only minimal damage to its front, including the windscreen and side mirrors, due to radiant heat.
The South African Police Service also attended the scene to assist with incident management. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this stage.
Authorities urge the public to report any fire or rescue emergencies by calling the toll-free number 107 or alternatively 012 358 6300/6400.
