Tuks Bounce Back with Dominant Win Over CUT in Varsity Cup
After a disappointing loss to Ikeys, Tuks roared back into form with a commanding 63-26 victory over the Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein on Monday night. Scoring nine tries, the Pretoria side showcased resilience and attacking prowess to keep their Varsity Cup campaign on track.
The fourth round of the tournament was a high-scoring affair, with three of the four winning teams surpassing 50 points. North-West Eagles crushed Shimlas 59-14, while UCT dismantled Wits 71-17. Meanwhile, Maties remain the only unbeaten side, leading the standings with 20 points, followed by Tuks (17), Ikeys (15), Shimlas (12), and North-West Eagles (11).
With just three matches remaining before the playoffs, Tuks face a tough road ahead. They host North-West Eagles next, followed by a challenging away clash against Maties in Stellenbosch before wrapping up their campaign at home against Shimlas. To secure a playoff spot, at least one win will be crucial.
Coach Dewey Swartbooi remains focused on the bigger picture, emphasizing that success in Varsity Cup rugby is about winning the overall war, not just individual battles. While the win against CUT was impressive, Tuks know the real test lies ahead.
