SPCA Tshwane – We need your help and urgent support!
Your society needs your help
Notwithstanding prudent financial management and ongoing fundraising initiatives, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Tshwane has seen a continued decline in its income in recent months which leaves us in a precarious financial situation. This is attributed to the possible widespread stressed economy where many households are impacted and have had no other option than to suspend or cancel their monthly support, leaving us with a significant income deficit. In addition there is a significant increase in the number of pets that are surrendered to our branches that results in increased kennel costs.
We pride ourself that up to 40% of our income is normally generated through the sale of inbranch services that reduce our reliance on public support, but these have not escaped the impact of Covid-19 and a dwindling economy as public support of our veterinary clinics, sale of pet products, adoptions, boarding kennels etc. are all impacted and are well below the required capacity.
We serve an area of 6200kms – our Inspectorate is in call 24/7 to respond to animal cruelty complaints and our vehicle running costs remain excessive as a result. Keeping our staff safe during the Covid-19 pandemic remains a priority and that comes with increased costs for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the ongoing sanitation of branches. Goods donations to our charity shops and markets have drastically reduced which results in reduced sales income. As you may be aware, our branches are located in industrial areas that pose a high risk for crime and our Waltloo branch in particular has been the target or several breakins and burglaries which resulted in increased security cost to keep our staff and animals safe, as well as an increase in insurance premiums.
Despite active lobbying, The Society also does not receive any funding from the government or the City of Tshwane and is totally reliant on your support to ensure continued service to the community as we’re the only animal welfare organisation that can investigate and prosecute cases of animal cruelty.
Despite these difficult financial circumstances, our staff remain positive and are readily available to assist all animals and fulfil our mandate by keeping our operations and facilities functional.
The SPCA TSHWANE is appealing to the public to assist us by making an URGENT once-off or recurring donation. Without this support we will not be able to meet all our financial obligations fully for May.
