Wierdabrug Police Commander Aims to Restore Community Trust
Colonel Mankontsho Abram Setlhare, the newly appointed police commander,
Has embarked on a mission to rebuild trust within the community of Wierdabrug, Setlhare, who assumed the role after the station had been without a commander since 2021, is determined to bring discipline and order back to the Wierdabrug precinct.
Addressing concerns raised by residents, Setlhare expressed his commitment to winning back the community’s confidence. He emphasized the need for a strong and decisive approach to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of the residents.
Joining Setlhare in this endeavor is Colonel Lekana, the new Vispol commander from Mabopane, responsible for overseeing uniformed officers and the charge office. Additionally, Captain Annemarie Verster, a Centurion resident, has been appointed to manage the firearm section.
Recent crime statistics for the period between April and June revealed an alarming increase in residential burglaries, with 169 reported incidents, five more than the previous year. Crimes detected as a result of police action decreased, highlighting the need for proactive measures to apprehend criminals.
Setlhare, who brings three decades of experience in law enforcement, is known for his passion for maintaining law and order. He firmly believes in a hands-on approach and leads by example, demonstrating his dedication to serving the community. Setlhare’s focus on catching criminals and instilling fear in lawbreakers reflects his unwavering commitment to public safety.

Ward 66 councillor Ina Strijdom expressed gratitude for Setlhare’s appointment, acknowledging the community’s concerns about rising crime and a lack of law enforcement presence. Strijdom welcomed the new management team and expressed hope for positive changes in the Wierdabrug precinct. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, the community, and security companies to create a safer environment for all residents.
