Skateboarding is a street culture, a no rules sport, and a religion for most. Skateboarding is not about competition, it is about fun, landing a new trick after many bruises from falling, or creating your own trick, it is about learning balance.
So when did skateboarding become such a popular sport? When surfers, according to streetisculture.com, could no longer surf because the sea was too flat.
The next logical step was the creation of the wooden scooter and skateboarding has influenced numerous sub-cultures since.
Skateboarding today embodies different types of skating such as:
- Street skating, an advantage of skating absolutely anywhere, like the skateboarders you will always find skating at Church Square, Pretoria.
- Longboarding
- Vert
ShowMe hung out with super cool young skaters at the Menlyn Skate Park and took a few pictures of the skate boarders in action.
How awesome it was to watch these skaters perform even after a long day of skating for the Boogaloos Skateboarding for Hope, an outreach initiative held on the 17th of May 2014 as part of the skateboarding road show that builds up to the Kimberley Diamond Cup Skateboarding World Championships.
