Rising Cellphone Theft in Centurion

Police have warned of a surge in cellphone snatching incidents across Centurion, particularly between August and October 2025. Hotspots include Mall@Reds (Rooihuiskraal North), Bothrill Avenue (The Reeds), and Lenchen Avenue.
Authorities have stressed the importance of reporting incidents to help tackle rising thefts in local hotspots.
- Peak times: Fridays and Saturdays, 15:00–21:00
- Modus operandi: Suspects grab phones from people in restaurants, malls, or on the street, then flee in waiting vehicles.
- Police response: Weekly operations are underway, but authorities stress that public reporting is vital to guide deployments.
Local councillor Cindy Billson and resident Eunice Strydom both shared recent experiences of attempted and successful thefts, highlighting the growing sense of vulnerability. Police urge residents to report all incidents to prevent a “false sense of security” and help identify suspects.
