Pretoria Cycling and Mountain Biking
Pretoria is a great destination for cycling and mountain biking lovers.
With so many dedicated routes and tracks for mountain biking, cycling and track cycling in and around the city- there’s plenty to do for beginners and experts.
There are many great places for bikepacking expeditions, track cycling and mountain biking- but here are a few of ShowMe Pretoria’s favourite spots:
Groenkloof Nature Reserve
The reserve offers a large variety of activities for nature lovers just 5 km from the city centre.
The reserve’s mountain bike trail is a favourite among cyclists from the capital city. The total length of the route is 20 kilometres, with some great technical climbs and descents. Helmets are compulsory.
There are overnight facilities available in the reserve.

Pilditch Cycling Track
The 250m cycling track at Pilditch Stadium is the center for track cycling in Gauteng North. It has a concrete surface and has a 47 degree slope in the turns.
With the encouragement of national champions and experienced track riders, Pilditch is the ideal training ground for enthusiastic beginners to learn the bike skills that will help them become the stars of the future. Classes are held regularly.
Loan bikes are available at all organised sessions and events.
Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18h00 to 21h00, and Wednesdays from 18h00 to 22h00.

Somabula Nature Reserve
Nestling in the quiet hills between Rayton and Cullinan, the Somabula Nature Reserve offers 400 hectares of indigenous trees, excellent birding and a large variety of antelope as well as giraffe, zebra, springbok and wildebeest.
There are more than 30km of roads and trails for walking and mountain biking. Although there are no official trails, the animal paths offer interesting destinations as you ride through the bush and trees.
On your arrival at the reserve you will be given a map of Somabula detailing all the roads and hills on which you can plan your route.

The Voortrekker Monument & Nature Reserve
The reserve’s cycling trails is situated in a safe, fenced reserve with a wide variety of fauna and flora.
There’s different mountain bike trails, making provision for the whole spectrum; from basic beginners to advanced for adrenalin junkies with different starting points to make it more interesting.
The trails are self determined, but goes from between 3 to 10 kilometers. Bicycles are available for hire at the information centre.
Hours: 1 May to 31 August from 08:00 to 17:00, and 1 September to 30 April from 08:00 to 18:00.
