Lucinda Neethling
Die Melktert Kommissie is a well-known Afrikaans band in South Africa and although they took a break from performing full time since 2009, the band has recently surprised fans with some pop-up performances and even a new song – “Karma”.
Originally from Jeffereys Bay the band members have pursued some other dreams and talents other than the obvious musical talents since 2009. Pretoria is fortunate to have lead singer, Lucinda Strydom (now Lucinda Neethling) as a Jacaranda City resident.
ShowMe Pretoria met up with Lucinda to find out what she has been up to, what she loves about Pretoria and the future plans for Die Melktert Kommisie.
How long have you been living in Pretoria?
I moved to Pretoria in 2005, so that would make it 8 years now.
What have you been up to since Die Melktert Kommissie?
I received a degree in Bcom Entrepreneurship, was a presenter on a television show called Kief, did some shows with Marie-Louise Pretorius (from Klopjag), got married and also started my career as an artist.
What is your favourite live music venue in Pretoria?
I have to say Cafe Barcelona. I always feel extremely at home there!
What do you think is the best kept secret in Pretoria?
Railways Cafe…I don’t think it’s a secret though, but if you haven’t been there before , you have to go!
Do you have any advice for young singers and songwriters?
Always stay humble and be willing to take advice and learn from other people in the industry. Write down and keep even the “not so great” lyrics, it may inspire you at a later stage in your life. Be honest when writing songs.
