Lebo Mphela
25 year old Lebo Mphela is a a business woman who started her Malia Nails polish range from her mothers kitchen right here in Pretoria. The first black woman to enter the South African beauty market using nail polish to make her mark. Her nail polish has been popular among local celebrities. She has been featured in magazines, radio stations and and popular online sites marketing her brand.
That’s not all, this busy – highly ambitious young woman went on to become the top 2 finalist for the SABC1 leadership show, One Day Leader.
Tumi Mogorosi
If you’ve long been part of the Capital Arts Revolution movement, then you know we’ve watched Tumi grow as an artist. From playing the guitar to the amazing drummer he has become, Tumi Mogorosi’s Project Elo is an album the world over will play for a very long time.
He has performed on stages overseas, has done numerous interviews and songs from his album are jazz station favourites. In an article written by Percy Zvomuyo of the Mail & Guardian, Tumi said this about his love for the drums, “The drum is such a central feature of African spirituality. I like to ask and explore what’s unseen.”
Banele Khoza
A talented visual arts graduate from the Tshwane University of Technology to say the least. One cannot ignore Banele’s surreal illustrations. He has showcased his work in galleries around the country and internationally at the AKAA art fair in Paris.
Banele also won the 2017 SA Taxi Foundation Art Award for his brilliant interpretation of the complexities of being African. ” Being so called African or identifying as African is a problematic identity as Africans don’t share the same reality,” he said.
Watch out for his work printed on one of our local taxis, is that not cool though?
Rouge
In 2015 she popped on our screens with the song BUA and she’s been successful ever since with songs such as Mbongo Zaka. Born in Pretoria, this half Congolese & South African rapper does her thing really well.
She not only has rhymes as her notable, Rogue has also earned herself a Drama & Film Degree at the University of Pretoria. This is a female mc to look out for!
Ask uncle google about each one of these young go-getters and, we know that we have to support our own Pretoria!
