Henrico Coetzer

BIOGRAPHY – SEPTEMBER 2020

Henrico Coetzer is a South African singer, musician and songwriter from Pretoria, Gauteng. Although he has been singing for most of his life, he only recently hit the spotlight as a contestant on the second season of the talent competition, Maak My Famous, on kykNET.

The twenty-seven-year-old singer’s unique velvety voice has been conquering hearts since he was a young boy and it has been his dream to have a career in music for as long as he can remember.

He received vocal coaching from Chris Coetzer (Three Tenors) and Gisela de Villiers and has shared stages with the likes of Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld, Theuns Jordaan, Jakkie Louw, Demi Lee Moore, Touch of Class, Corlea Botha and many others since the age of eighteen.

The artist was also a regular performer at the Blouhond Theatre in Pretoria and was part of the Droomkind stage production in which Bobby van Jaarsveld played the lead. In addition to his show with Corlea Botha at Emperor’s Palace, which has been one of his career highlights so far, he has also become a regular at music festivals and show across the country.

Henrico’s debut album, which was released in 2012, was very well received and the first single topped Radio Rippel’s charts for three weeks. The song also came second in the Song of the Year competition in the same year.

Dis wie ek is…, his second album (2015), delivered hits like Soos Reën, which was written by Joshua na die Reën, topped the charts of several radio stations and still gets regular playtime on air.

After being voted off Maak My Famous at the Top 8 stages of the competition, he approached one of South Africa’s best songwriters, Vaughan Gardiner to write him a new song and within record time, Vaughan wrote, HOOR MY WOORDE, to represent a brand-new chapter in his music career. The song has just been released and will most definitely be a hit with audiences of all ages.

Josh Groban, Tarryn Lamb, Elvis Blue, Adèle and Corlea Botha are all artists that he admires, because he enjoys listening to deeper music that tells a story. He would also like to record a duet with Tarryn someday.

If he had to choose a different career, he would have loved to host a travel program and see the world. He is currently busy writing new songs and preparing for live performances. “I would also like to do more shows for my new fans in the Cape,” he shares.

The entertainment industry has taught Henrico to work hard and persevere when it comes to his dreams and that there is a place in the music industry for every musician. He wants to touch people’s hearts with his poetic lyrics and soothing melodies and hopes to win over a few new listeners during this next chapter of his life and music career.
