Good Morning Angels Raises 310K for Johandré-Blom

Johandré-Blom
It all happened in a moment of innocent play. Johandré was splashing about in shallow water with a friend, unaware that danger lurked nearby.
Suddenly, a massive crocodile emerged and dragged him under. In a scene that could have been straight out of a nightmare, his father, Corné, sprang into action. Despite the horror and desperation of the situation, Corné’s valiant efforts managed to save his son, though not without cost—Johandré’s left arm was tragically torn off. Yet, in a twist of fate that defied expectations, the brave little boy survived and now faces the daunting road to recovery.
In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels has rallied together to raise an astounding R310,000 for 7-year-old Johandré Blom, who endured a life-altering crocodile attack near Brits on 21 March 2025.
The outpouring of support was swift and overwhelming. The Good Morning Angels Fund immediately pledged R100,000 to help cover Johandré’s soaring medical bills. Two compassionate anonymous donors further touched hearts with contributions of R25,000 and R50,000, while corporate hero We Buy Cars added another R50,000 to the pool. But it didn’t stop there. Moved by his harrowing ordeal and the hope that his recovery symbolizes, listeners stepped forward with donations totaling an additional R85,000. Together, these generous gestures have amassed a life-changing R310,000.
Today, Johandré is in the pediatric ICU of a private hospital, resting in a medically induced coma as doctors work tirelessly to set him on a path toward healing. With his family facing nearly R1 million in hospital and rehabilitation costs—and without the benefit of medical aid—a BackaBuddy campaign has been launched to ease the financial burden. Every bit of support counts in the fight to give this brave child a better tomorrow. Contributions can be made here: BackaBuddy Campaign.
“This story is heartbreaking, yet it shines a light on the transformative power of community support,” reflects Martin Bester, the beloved host of Jacaranda FM’s ‘Breakfast With Martin Bester’. “Johandré is a symbol of resilience, and his courage inspires us all. We are deeply grateful to our listeners, partners, and everyone who has come together to support his journey.”
The path to recovery may be steep and challenging, but with the unyielding support of the Jacaranda FM family and the generosity of a nation, Johandré’s future is filled with hope and promise. Tune in every Wednesday morning to Good Morning Angels on Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast With Martin Bester to join in the celebration of community and compassion.
