Fishing hotspots in Pretoria
Pretoria offers excellent fresh water fishing. From bass dams to fly fishing, there is plenty to tempt the keen fisherman.
ShowMe Pretoria has put together a list of some of the popular fishing spots in Pretoria:
Bundu Bashing
Bundu Bashing is a small farm just off the Boschkop Road Pretoria East, in the Boschkop / Tweedracht area.
Species available for fishing are bass (large & small mouth), tilapia and carp. There are six dams available (Only one with carp).

Please book in advance. Gates are normally locked. Fishing / Braai places can be booked exclusively for more privacy at a minimum cost.

Directions
Take Lynnwood Road towards Bapsfontein. Take the Boschkop Road. Drive 16 km just before the train bridge turn right onto the gravel road after Avalon Castle. Look for the Tweedracht sign. Turn right at the T-Junction. Turn left at the JPC fence and follow the road till you reach Gate 1.
Bronkhorstspruit Dam
Situated 60 km East of Pretoria, the dam can produce fish throughout the year.
Fish caught are Largemouth Bass, Carp, Barbel, Kurper, Yellowfish.

Directions
Head east on N4 toward Exit 3. Take exit 45 toward R25/Kempton Park/ Bronkhorstspruit W/R568. Turn right onto R513. Turn left onto R25. Take first right. Follow Nature Reserve signs.
Roodeplaat Dam
Roodeplaat dam is a recognized destination for bird watching, game viewing and a range of water sports including fresh water angling. Fish caught are Bass, Carp, Kurper and Barbel.

Direction
Take the N1 North and take the Sefako Makgatho (old Zambesi) off-ramp, turn right and go under the highway. Turn left at the traffic light at the Moloto road crossing, travel down this road for approximately 5-8 km’s. Approaching a slight hill, the gate will be on the right a little hind in from the Moloto road, slow down on your approach to the hill.
Struben Dam
At Struben Dam you can unwind and relax while you enjoy a multitude of fun activities that includes picnicking and fishing. Fishing at the dam is a true pleasure. Fish species available are Banded Tilapia, Sharp tooth catfish, Canary Kurper, Karp and Bass.

Directions
Take the Atterbury turn-off from the N1 to the east. Turn left into Ingersol Road and then left into Ilkey road. Turn right into Innes Road . The main gate is on the right –hand side.
The Rietvlei Dam Nature Reserve
Three types of recreational sports are exercised at the Rietvlei Dam including yachting, canoeing and angling. Dam and the angling area is on the northern and western shores. Fish caught in Rietvlei dam include Catfish, Yellowfish, Carp and Tilapia.
Visiting hours
1 October to 31 March: 05:30 to 19:00. Entry to the reserve is allowed until 17:00.
1 April to 30 September: 06:00 to 18:00. Entry to the reserve is allowed until 16:00.

Directions
On the R21 take the Irene/Rietvleidam off-ramp and turn in an easterly direction (towards Rietvleidam). At the first four-way stop turn right towards Olifantsfontein and the St George’s Hotel. Drive for 1.5km, crossing the Sesmylspruit. On the left is the signboard for the reserve. Turn left and follow the road up the hill to the main gate. Drive past the stone entrance until you get to the offices and entrance gate.
