Faerie Glen Nature Reserve
Breathtaking nature reserve with a broad range of native wildlife, plus hiking trails and scenic views.
Birdwatchers will be in their element as there are more than 150 species of birds to look out for.
Common finds include the European Nightjar, African Black Duck, Brown-backed Honeybird, European Bee-eater, Cape Grassbird, Marsh Warbler, Crimson-breasted Shrike and Village Weaver. Rare birds such as the Corncrake and River Warbler have also been spotted at the reserve, so keep those binoculars at hand.

Hiking trails
- Hadeda Trail: 2,3 km (easy)
- Acacia Trial: 3,2 km (medium)
- Kiepersol Trail: 4,2 km (hard)
Birdwatching
- There are two wooden lookout points.
- There are informal picnic spots but no braai facilities (only picnic baskets are allowed).
- Dogs on leashes are allowed with a valid permit. Permits can be obtained by completing the application form at the cashier. The form must be handed in together with an identity photo, a copy of the applicant’s identity document, and receipt of payment. Permits take about three days to be issued and may be collected from the cashier.

Rules and regulations
- Groups larger than 20 must book in advance.
- No loud noise is allowed.
- No gazebos are allowed.
- No braaing is allowed.
Visiting hours
- Gate times: 06:00 to 18:00 (winter and summer)
- Entrance to the nature reserve will only be allowed until one hour before closing time.
