Top Matric’s and their future plans
With an average of 95% and nine distinctions, Sigourney Lishman is officially the top Matric student in the class of 2015 in Pretoria, Gauteng. Sigourney, who was a learner at Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool, will study to become an actuary one day with the 100% pass distinction in mathematics.
The talent does not simply end there, as Pretoria students have bigger plans for their future ahead. Jennifer Dalgleish, whom attended Hoërskool Zwartkop and passed with eight distinctions, wants to become an aspiring doctor one day. “I want to make a positive difference in people’s lives”, said Jennifer.
Hoërskool Waterkloof’s Mericia Els, bragged with eight distinctions and aims to study accounting sciences at the University of Pretoria in 2016. Not only was she an academic junkie, but she was also voted head girl for 2015, secretary for the junior city council, participated in the ATKV (Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuur Vereniging) orals and last but not least she was crowned student of the year. (Klofie van die jaar).
Lara Loock, which was also a student from the Hoërskool Waterkloof, received nine distinctions in 2015. She will be studying actuary science at the University of Stellenbosch. Her life motto is to strive for excellence in everything that you do and to stay humble when you perform, but also positive if you fail.
Tian Lategan was in Hoërskool Eldoraigne, and still got away with eight distinctions while competing in sports like tennis and rugby. He will be studying actuary at the University of Pretoria this year.
Not only is this just a few of Pretoria’s top achievers, but an inspiration to the rest of our nation that dreams do come true if you work hard and never give up. The youth of South Africa today is the role models of tomorrow, and the leaders of SA.
