✔ Diagnostics and Tune Up

Todays modern vehicles require sophisticated diagnostic equipment and expertly trained technicians. Our workshop has both. Is your car not running well; cold start problems, uneven running engine, over- heating or high fuel consumption spoil the performance of your car? The likelihood, that a service will solve your problem is low, but on the other hand, if your car needs a service anyway, this might be the way to go. If, however, your car just had a service, may be with another service provider, a diagnostic interrogation of your engine management systems should be considered.

Diagnostic check of carburetor cars & earlier fuel injection vehicles
We inspect the ignition system, set the timing and the exhaust gas mixture to the manufacturers specification (tune up). Now we can establish, whether the engine runs within specification or if one or more of the systems has any faults. (ignition, fuel supply, electric or electronic)

Once this has been established it might be necessary to look further (at an additional charge) for the exact reasons why the engine is not performing. It might be necessary to open the dashboard to find an electrical fault or to check sensors, relays and other components.

Diagnostic check of fuel injection engines with management system
The electronic control unit of the engine management system is connected to a diagnostic tester and we obtain a display of faults recorded. Through an elimination process we can determine, whether these recorded faults are originating from faulty parts, which have to be replaced or whether an abnormal condition has occurred, in which case the ECU memory can be cleared.

The diagnostic check and fault finding process does not include any parts and labour required to repair the problem found during the fault finding process.

✔ Cylinderhead Gaskets

Prevention
A properly serviced and maintained car seldom has a problem with blown cylinder head gaskets. The main cause of blowing this gasket is a build up of pressure in the system caused by insufficient cooling or excessive engine-wear. Regular servicing, as per manufacturers service schedule and replacing worn parts of the cooling system will greatly reduce the probability of blowing this gasket. Parts, which have to be inspected at regular intervals, are: The water pump, welsh plugs, the radiator and radiator hoses, fan belt, radiator fan and the thermostat. The whole system has to be checked every time one of these parts is faulty and have to be replaced.

Now it happened…
Your cylinder head gasket is leaking, but you have managed to get to the service centre before the car has overheated. A responsible workshop will now go through a number of tests, which will help with the decision, whether a replacement of the gasket would fix the problem. If the engine has done high mileage a cylinder leakage test has to be performed, establishing whether the pistons do not have excessive wear and the cylinder rings have not been damaged. All parts of the cooling system have to be examined and faulty parts replaced.

Customer decision
If the car has overheated the problem is more serious. There is a chance that the bottom part of the engine has been damaged. All tests, as described above, have to be done, but there is simply no way to determine conclusively, whether there is damage done to parts like the crankshaft bearings, cylinders, cylinder rings and other vital engine parts. There is always the risk that some of the damaged parts may fail in the future and the engine fails. The decision to replace the cylinder head gasket has to be made by the customer. The workshop can guarantee that after all tests have been done and all faulty cooling system parts have been replaced, the cylinder head gasket will hold but cannot guarantee the performance of the bottom part of the engine.

✔ Engine Overhauls

Engine Overhauls
Your car engine has failed and you have to make a decision what to do now? Do I have the engine overhauled? Do I buy a replacement engine? Do I get a second hand engine? Do I trade my car in and buy another one?

Engine overhaul
Every one of the above choices will give you the desired result. A properly overhauled engine is as good as new if the work has been done by a responsible engineering company, using original seals and parts. To overhaul an engine is expensive, if done properly. It is not advisable to skip and not replace essential parts to bring down the cost. It almost always will backfire. We advise a complete engine overhaul only to be done on late model cars, which are otherwise in excellent condition.

Replacement engine or sub-assembly
As above, also this option is costly and should only be considered on late model vehicles. Engines overhauled in our workshop carry a one year unlimited km guarantee.

Second hand engine
Especially for Japanese made vehicles a good second hand engine is an option for medium and older cars. These engines are often imported and the importer gives a guarantee from between one to six months. Our workshops install second hand engines bought by our customers. However, we cannot guarantee the proper functioning of the engine after it has been installed into the car. It is advisable to replace service items like the cam belt, the water pump etc. and service the engine after it has been installed.

To sell the car
It is often a good option to sell a car with engine problems. The value of an older car is often lower than the money one would have to spend to repair a failed engine.

✔ Fuel Injection Petrol  

Fuel Injection Petrol
Due to the complexity of high tech fuel injection components, the tendency is to test units like the fuel injection pumps, air mass meter, coolant sensor, temperature sensors and the ECU (engine control unit) in the system in which they operate. The preferred repair method for the modern automobile is to test the system, using the correct diagnostic tester and comparing the results with the specification to isolate the problem area or component. In this way, the components are tested in their correct working environment, and if their malfunction is due to some other part in the system, this will be evident.

Fuel injection components are very costly and replacing these parts without investigating the problem thoroughly will be an expensive exercise. If you have a problem with your fuel supply, bring your car to us, where it will be tested by experienced technicians on the correct equipment.

Do not have your fuel injection components tested in isolation. Your chances of success are minimal!

How it works:
