Dog-friendly attractions in Pretoria

Looking for a family activity, but not prepared to leave the four-legged members of your family behind? Why not bring them along?

Here’s a list of Pretoria’s most popular pet-friendly places where you can walk and entertain your dog :

Jan Cilliers Park

This park is very popular for all dog lovers in the Capital. The park contains indigenous plants and water features and offers a social environment for dog owners.

Address: Cnr Wenning and Broderick Streets, Groenkloof

Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary

The Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary offers visitors beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere – a perfect picnic destination. The 12-acre park is well used by dog walkers, under condition that the dogs must be on leashes.

Walking around Faerie GlenFaerie Glen Nature Reserve

A walk up the koppie gives offers views over parts of Pretoria East. Dogs must be on a leash in this Nature Reserve as there are wild animals present. Trails also include a walk along the hills, streams and through the grasslands.

Irene Market

Dogs are allowed at the Irene Market, an art & crafts market held every two weeks (the second and last Saturday of the month) at the Smuts House Museum from 09h00 to 14h00. The market offers guarded parking, children’s entertainment, a tea garden, numerous food stalls and over 300 exhibits.

Dogs can be walked at Magnolia Dell Park, one of Pretoria’s most beautiful parks.

The Magnolia Craft Market takes place on the first Saturday of every month. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the park as well as at the market.

Pretoria Boeremark

The Pretoria Boeremark is all about fresh, traditional and homemade.  Open every Saturday form 5:00am to 09:30am, the market is a dog-friendly event. The market gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy the wide variety of fresh produce and to relax under the trees with family and friends.

This highly recommended park is a 1.2 km stretch of lawns with ponds in one section where dogs can swim.  It is also possible for the dogs to run off leash

Address: close to the corner of Dorado Street and Eridanus Street.
