Zombie Run My Bloody Valentine
February the 14th was not just about romance and flowers this year with the Zombie Run taking place at the National Zoological Gardens this past Friday.
The avenues of the Pretoria Zoo were packed with colourful and costumed runners, each with his own representation of what is needed during the zombie apocalypse for survival.
Many people opted to do their own make-up and costumes while others made a quick stop at the make-up ladies from Dawn Williams.
The team from Tuks Fm provided the zombie horde with much needed mood music and competition instructions as Turbovite prizes and goodies were given away late into the evening.
Runners were split into groups and left at timed intervals to avoid congestion on the trail. Zombies hid in dark corners and surprised passers-by by leaping out and grabbing the red flags that each runner had on their person, which represented lives. Some took the game more seriously than others.
The event was a roaring success with more than 1500 participants on location. A feeling of excitement and fun was ever-present and many people attended simply to spectate.
The Zombie Run was definitely the most entertaining event on the Valentine’s Day calendar this year, providing a fun alternative to an overly commercialized holiday.
