For branding – Made in Africa had T-shirts printed with the map of the continent written, “I’m the Psychotic African Economic Patriot they warned you about,” and with South Africa’s current economic crisis and the fact that youth unemployment has reached boiling point, this sort of thinking can effectively curb youth unemployment.
A positive entrepreneurial culture begins at the root of society so supporting local merchandise & services makes more sense than buying products from already developed countries.
Most of the stalls at this market were selling products they’ve taught themselves to make, such as Elijah from Elijah Designs who said he bumped into interior designing, took an online course and immersed himself in doing the best he could with his skill or CHR Total Beauty who sell neck pieces, earrings, head wraps that come with free head wrap and make up lessons when you buy from them, CHR Total Beauty began by the entrepreneurs deciding to catch a taxi to Johannesburg with R800 to see what they could buy in order to sell and they’ve been pushing ever since.
If you missed Made in Africa’s first market, catch them on the 27th of May 2017, follow Made in Africa on Facebook for more details and to contact retailers.
