Irene Village Market 25th Anniversary
On Saturday, 31 May 2014, the very popular Irene Village Market celebrated its 25th anniversary with a huge event that was attended by young and old.
ShowMe Pretoria was there to capture the event. We estimate that the day attracted more than 10000 visitors. When we arrived about an hour before opening time, the queue of cars already started to form in Nellmapius Street!
When the first market was held on 13 May 1989 at Smuts House, there were 34 exhibitors and about half of Pretoria attended! On 31 May 2014, 25 years later, the beautiful winters day played its part in ensuring the success of the event.
On a regular day the market boasts around 300 stalls, You will find original clothing, jewellery, furniture, antiques, toys, and much more. There is also a separate deli section where you can choose from a wide selection of fresh bread, muffins, cheese, wine, pesto’s, herbs, flowers and other delicacies. There is also a tea garden at the food stalls where you can enjoy something to eat while you listen to jazz or classical music.
