World Cancer Day 4 February 2016
We Can ALL Fight Cancer
CANSA invites YOU to do what YOU can to fight cancer this World Cancer Day (WCD), 4 Feb 2016, and beyond. Help us to reduce cancer risk, achieve greater equity in cancer care and ensure that fighting cancer is prioritised at the highest political levels.
WCD’s theme from 2016 to 2018 will be ‘We can, I can’ – and it highlights how each individual & community can make a difference in the fight against cancer & provide better support to cancer Survivors.
We challenge corporates, organisations, families, friends and individuals to take on this challenge and to pledge their support to striving for a cancer-free SA!
What YOU Can Do:
1. Take your WCD Pledge
We. Can.
- Inspire action, take action
- Reduce cancer risk

- Build a quality cancer workforce
- Mobilise our networks to drive progress
- Shape policy change
- Make the case for investing in cancer control
- Work together for increased impact
- Speak out and share stories
I. Can.
- Make healthy lifestyle choices
- Understand that early detection can save lives
- Ask for support
- Support others
- Support others
- Take control of my cancer journey
- Care and be cared for
- Be myself
- Return to work
- Share my story
2. Raise Awareness
It’s no good keeping your WCD Pledge to yourself! Use the count down time until WCD (4 Feb) & beyond, to raise awareness about cancer by sharing your WCD pledge with all your contacts on social media, via email, word of mouth, etc.
Two great ways to share your awareness message & WCD Pledge:
Post a #NoHairSelfie (create with app or shave for real) & your WCD Pledge
If you are not able to join the #NoHairSelfie Campaign, diarise Shavathon (27 to 28 February 2016) and shave / spray to create awareness of cancer and show solidarity with cancer Survivors at your local Shopping Centre.
Post a “Talking Hands” pic with your WCD Pledge
3. Inspire Action in Your Community
Just as cancer affects everyone in different ways, everyone has the power to take action to reduce the impact of the disease on individuals, families and communities.
World Cancer Day is a chance to reflect on what you can do, to make a pledge and to take action.
Whatever you choose to do, ‘We can. I can.’ make a difference in the fight against cancer!
Help CANSA Make a Difference in Your Community
