The South African State Theatre
The opening of the South African State Theatre Complex in May 1981 was a milestone in South African history, and the theatre has been playing a leading role in the development of the performing arts ever since its birth.
Situated in the heart of the Pretoria CBD, the theatre offers a variety of exciting venues for performances, conferences, festivals, product launches, fashion shows and more.
The theatre complex also offers rehearsal studios and offices for rental.ws, film festivals, weddings, parties, matric dances and farewells, lunches and dinners. World-class shows ranging from Opera, Ballet, Musical, Drama, Cabaret and Children’s Theatre are regularly held here.
The complex consists out of six world class theatres with seating capacities ranging from 120 to 1300 seats.
The theatre is always busy thinking of ways to improve and expand, and is currently re-branding and re-launching the Rendezvous Theatre.
When visiting the South African State Theatre well-lit and secure car parking is available below the complex. The car park consists of 1000 parking bays and is famous for boasting the largest exhibition of Ndebele art in one place in the world – with a wide variety of colourful paintings on the parking lot walls.
There are a number of restaurants within easy distance of the State Theatre, with the Afro Lounge Kitchen Bar situated at the theatre with the main entrance on the ground floor on street level.
