It’s lekker fun, laughter and tragic but beautifully crafted stories of South Africans by South Africans this Heritage month at Ster-Kinekor Cinemas. Dive into the diverse pot of South African stories and enjoy local film content in September as Ster-Kinekor hosts the Heritage film festival every Thursday from 6th September at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas.
Delve into the dark side of our rainbow nation and have a front row seat of the poverty-stricken community of the Cape flats, troubled by drugs and the gangsterism culture. Ellen which kickstarts the film festival on 6 September takes one on a journey of a mother and son’s relationship is strained due to the destructive company he keeps that leads to an irrepressible drug addiction. This heart breaking true story about Ellen; a mother who is driven to murder his own son due to his addiction showcases the both the dark and lighter side of our rainbow nation.

Heritage Month continues with special screenings of Table Manners on 13th September; a heart-warming story of a woman challenged to stay afloat despite her failing relationship and her family’s debt issues. Played by the beloved local talent, Diaan Lawrence who is known for her famous role on 7de Laan, Megan is a mother and wife who loses everything when her husband is arrested for tax fraud. With no choice but to survive, Megan recovers and finds herself through her love for cooking and the support of her friend, Lindiwe played by Renate Stuurman.
Table Manners releases 28September nationally.
A never seen before sight of Mayfair, an Indian community known for its textile trading. The town is shown in another light showcasing the crimes that take place in the underground world along with the vibrant and colourful sights of Johannesburg. Mayfair is a story of an estranged son who must break the rules to save his family (and their criminal empire) when his overbearing father falters. You can enjoy it on 20th of September at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas.

Also showing on the 20th September is The Recce, an edge-of-your-seat action title. After the SADF wrongfully declares young Recce, Henk Viljoen dead is behind enemy lines, it’s up to him alone to use every skill and tool in his arsenal to make it back to his grieving wife. With the enemy hot on his trail and a lethal gunshot wound in his gut, Henk’s chances for survival are looking slim as he navigates the treacherous war torn African landscape.
The Recce releases on 28 September nationally.
