Be a Hero Change a Child’s Life – Jakaranda Kinderhuis
Our children need real-life heroes—men and women who will stand up for, support, care for, guide, and protect them. With the community rallying behind us and getting involved, we’re making significant progress, and we need to maintain that momentum to continue raising Empowered Enablers.
Our upcoming golf day offers a unique opportunity to join this mission. By sponsoring a 4-ball for just R5,000, you can directly contribute to changing a child’s life. To learn more and explore other ways to get involved, reach out to our event organizer, Maríe Reynecke, at marketing1@jacarandachildren.co.za. A vibrant day filled with fun, laughter, prizes, food, and goodwill awaits you and your team. Your participation can create lasting positive impacts for the children we care for.
As registered Children’s Homes (Child and Youth Care Centres), we operate two campuses in Pretoria: Jakaranda Kinderhuis (NPO183-619) in East Lynne and Louis Botha Kinderhuis (NPO 181-992) in Queenswood. The children placed in our care are removed from unsafe environments by the Children’s Court. We provide them with essential therapy, medical care, and a loving home where they can feel safe. We also transport our children to and from 25 schools in Pretoria daily.
We care for up to 327 children between the ages of 3 and 18, with nine houses at Louis Botha Kinderhuis (max 102 children) and 20 houses at Jakaranda Kinderhuis (max 225 children). Our vision is to empower these children through skills development, enabling them to reach their full potential and, one day, become responsible adults who make a difference in their communities.
Unfortunately, the quarterly subsidy we receive from the Department of Social Development now only covers 43% of our expenses. We rely heavily on community support, donations, and involvement to cover the shortfall. One of our most urgent needs is comprehensive therapy services for all our children. We have witnessed the profound impact that access to quality therapy can have on their well-being and development. We specifically need funds for forensic and socio-emotional assessments, which help us determine the best therapeutic approach for each child. Long-term therapies, such as speech, language, occupational, behavioral, and group therapy, have proven most beneficial.
