Directions to the Bushbuck Hiking Trail
Drive west from Port Elizabeth along the Seaview Road for approximately 25 kilometres to the Island Nature Reserve which is well signposted. The reserve offers numerous walks, the most well-known being the Bushbuck Hiking Trail.

Description
The Island Nature Reserve comprises 480 hectares of indigenous Alexandria coastal forest which grows next to plantations. The forest is a good example of a climax community growing on consolidated dunes. The area boasts some splendid tree species such as Outeniqua, Yellowwood, White and Hard Pear as well as White Milkwood. There are numerous walks, mainly along the old extraction roads and horse bridle path. Fauna includes small Blue Duiker, Bushbuck, Vervet Monkey and Bushpigs. More than 120 species of birds have been recorded to date – amongst them the Knysna Lourie.
