Perfectly situated, Nelson Mandela Bay residents are fortunate enough to be surrounded by an abundance of charming towns, which, on a regular basis, open their doors and provide access to world-class events and entertainment. At the execution of a left or right turn, and the cost of minimal kilometres on the clock, prior to even finishing your padkos sarmie you’ll happily find yourself at the following winter ‘affordable bucket list’ festival destinations. Best part? They’re close enough to make a day trip out of it, or, if your calendar allows, to book yourself in for the week!
ABSA Kirkwood Wildsfees
In the mood for some farm town flair? Join in at the ABSA Kirkwood Wildsfees from 26-28 June 2015. The “Wild @ Heart” festival prides itself in offering the “Big Five” in family entertainment: “top national artists, over 350 specialist stalls, expos, food and wine stalls with a difference”. Much anticipated artists include: Mi Casa, Snotkop, Kurt Darren, Desmond Wells and Dr Victor. A definite event for the entire family, with dimensions such as the “Kids are King” Childcare Kids Castle, Tiki Island style beach bar, and the Walk on the Wildside experience. Price range: FREE (for children under of age of 7 accompanied by an adult) –R300 (weekend pass).
National Arts Festival
Why should you attend the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown? ART, ART, ART! JBay Winter Fest
The JBay Winter Fest, in action from 8-19 July 2015, is the ultimate combination of the great outdoors and musical entertainment. The festival is associated with an impressive number of 13 sporting events to compete in, including: “The JBay Open of Surfing”, “Mountain Bike Open”, “Downhill Sokkie Jol” and “Oakley’s X-Over Championship”. Attracting those fond of a good party, the festival hosts the annual “Winter Music Festival” at the Jolly Dolphin, creating much excitement this year by featuring renowned South African musical artists: Jack Parow, Matthew Mole, and Shortstraw. With the gorgeous Jeffrey’s Bay as a backdrop, pack an extra scarf or two as the JBay Winter Fest is bound to make your winter a lot more ‘cooler’.
