The Bayworld Precinct Engagements to launch online
In a move to get a wider and broader collection of views and opinions about the planned Bayworld precinct redevelopment, the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) will on Monday, the 11th of March launch an integrated social media and digital campaign to reach multitude voices of the Bay citizens. The campaign’s tagline, “Imagine it. Shape it”, calls on residents, students, experts, businesses and everyone to reimagine the Bayworld precinct and propose their own valued aspirational views and opinions.
The MBDA as the project driver is mandated by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) and the Eastern Cape Provincial Government (ECPG), Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts & Culture (DSRAC) through a Cooperative Governance Agreement to redevelop Bayworld. The Agency has incorporated the greater Happy Valley precinct as well as the old Boet Erasmus stadium as sites of a wider Bayworld Precinct. Recently, the MBDA successfully demolished the Old Boet Erasmus stadium preparing the site for future development opportunities.
The Bayworld Precinct will embark on a robust social media engagement campaign under the handles @Bayworld2020 and via www.bayworld2020.co.za. The pillar of the campaign is an interactive public survey that will take only a few minutes to complete either via a mobile or desktop device. Users who complete this survey also stand a chance to win shopping vouchers. The campaign will run until the 12th of April 2019.
In order to improve the engagement and authenticity of opinions, Bay citizen may engage with the survey in their preferred language, between English, isiXhosa and Afrikaans. “We want to ensure that we get a widespread public participation that is based on inclusivity, transparency, accountability and sustainability”, added MBDA spokesperson, Luvuyo Bangazi.
The Agency has appointed a specialist social media engagement service provider to develop a public engagement strategy, drive conversation, monitor and provide a consolidated report, which will detail the current public sentiments around these Bay treasures.
