Aquelle Series Results from Sunday 11 Oct
Port Elizabeth’s unique aQuellé Ocean Racing SeriesTM got underway on Sunday at Hobie Beach with just under 500 entrants enjoying a break in the gale force winds which lashed the city on Saturday. Sunday’s weather saw a moderate Westerly wind making swimming conditions ideal for those that took part in the Series 3km, 1km and 2km Ocean Swim events whilst the 5km Beach Run, 5km Beach Walk and Kids 1km Beach Run was underway between Hobie Beach and Pollok Beach.
The Series is not only popular amongst local residents but also received entries from Johannesburg and around the Eastern Cape on Sunday.
“One of the highlights of the season for us is the support which our Masakhane Future Stars Development Trust has received from Pagdens Attorneys, Powertech Batteries and Caltex Eastern Cape this season which has enabled just over 100 youngsters from the local townships to take part in the Series this season.” said race organisers Mike Zoetmulder from Zsports Events NPC on Sunday morning. “What’s disappointing is that the Metro is charging us a beach hire fee of R1,900 per morning to host such a unique event in this city and help promote the city as the Water Sports capital.”
Season 11 of the Ocean Racing Series will consist of 10 race days between now and April 3rd 2016 with the next race day taking place in two weeks time.
