aQuelle Ocean Racing Series returns this Sunday
With summer slowly closing in, the popular aQuellé Ocean Racing Series starts to draw to a close for Season XI with just two race days remaining, this Sunday and again in two weeks time. Hundred’s of participants are expected to flock to Hobie Beach on Sunday for the penultimate round of what has become Africa’s largest family beach event which averages around 400 participants a race morning taking part in one of six events on offer.
It’s all to go for this Sunday as the top challengers via for the overall Series placings through the accumulation of points during the Series. Within the 1km, 2km & 3km Ocean Swims, the 5km Beach Run, 5km Beach Walk and the Kids 12 years and under 1km Beach Run, participants collect finishers points and this season, following the cancellation of round 2 late last year, their top 5 points from the possible 9 will count for the overall standings.
Whilst Ian Venter (1km Ocean Swim) and Daniel Jones (2km Ocean Swim) have already secured their overall titles this season with a full house of wins, the remaining positions are wide open and it’ll come down to Sunday’s race and the finale in two weeks time to determine these placings.
The Series is open to all and requires a once off R50 membership fee and a race day entry fee of just R60 for the swims, R40 for the beach events or R30 for the kids race. Fantastic lucky draw prizes on offer each race day including R1,000 cash.
Sunday’s registration opens from 7.30am at Hobie Beach ahead of the races starting from 9am followed by the prize giving on the beach for kids from 10am and adults from 10.20am. See www.oceanracingseries.com for further information.
