PE trespasser arrested
Residents of Port Elizabeth are reminded to test their home security systems regularly. This comes after the recent arrest of a trespasser in Bluewater Bay, after a local resident’s alarm system was triggered by the suspect.
Fidelity ADT’s monitoring centre received an alarm signal from a home in Bluewater Bay a few days ago (on Monday 19 February 2018) and immediately contacted the client to make sure everything was in order. The client however was not sure what had triggered the alarm and requested an armed response vehicle.
“Armed response officer Vusumzi Plaatjie and Siyanda Ncandana arrived at the address a few minutes later where they were met by the client at the front gate. He opened for them so that they could do a proper search of the property,” says Ryan Britz, branch manager for Fidelity ADT in Port Elizabeth.
The officers managed to identify two suspects who were hiding at the back of the premises. This resulted in a chase as they attempted to escape. Unfortunately one of these trespassers managed to get away.
“We are delighted with the quick response shown by our officers,” says Britz.
“The fact that they managed to apprehend one of the suspects before the client could suffer any more damage is excellent. Clients are encouraged to regularly test their alarms to make sure that everything is in working order. This will make sure that your security company will receive an alarm signal and will be able to come to your aid if something goes wrong.”
It was later found that the suspects entered the premises from the neighboring wall situated at the back of the property. The apprehended suspect was handed over to the Swartkops SAPS for arrest.
