PE sales agent chases down suspect car
A salesperson from a local armed response company recently found himself on the front line of the fight against crime, when he helped neighborhood watch members in chasing down a suspicious vehicle.
“Paul Johnson (pictured) has been a member of our sales team for a number of years. His passion for the industry and for the people of Port Elizabeth stretches to after-hours as well, when he volunteers his time as a member of The Vales Neighborhood Watch (VNHW),” explains Ryan Britz, Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for Port Elizabeth.
Johnson was busy doing patrols with his VNHW colleagues a few days ago, when they observed a car driving past them very slowly along 3rd Avenue in Newton Park.
“The vehicle in question matched a description previously shared relating to a group of suspects allegedly wanted in connection with incidents of remote jamming within the area. Remote jamming has become an all too familiar occurrence in the area in recent months, and Paul immediately contacted our monitoring centre to alert them as to the vehicle’s location,” says Britz.
In the meantime, Johnson and his colleagues followed the vehicle at a safe distance to keep it under observation.
When police approached the vehicle after a short period of time, the suspects proceeded on a high speed chase to evade apprehension. At this point, Johnson and his colleagues joined in the pursuit.
“The vehicle was eventually located in a cul-de-sac along Colas Street where the suspects abandoned it and fled on foot. The car was impounded and searched, and a number of remote jamming devices were recovered,” says Britz.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Paul on his excellent efforts. He has showcased everything that we stand for through his bravery and willingness to go the extra mile.”
