MBDA appoints its first woman CFO
After much introspection that included an opportunity for a structural reorganization to reinforce performance and capacity in the agency, the Mandela Bay Development Agency made strides in ensuring that crucial executive roles are realized. In doing so, former Chief Financial Officer, Ashwin Daya, assumed a new role as Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, a position which was identified as a gap in continuously managing and mitigating risks to the Agency’s objectives.
Following Daya’s new designation and a rigourous recruitment process, the MBDA has since appointed Koliswa Mgijima as the new Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately.
Mgijima was the Director for Municipal Financial Governance (MFG) at the Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury as well as Director at Gauteng Provincial Treasury. Prior to joining the two treasuries, Mgijima was a Consultant for Performance Improvement under the Advisory Division at PricewaterhouseCoopers in East London, where she gained experience in various consulting, assurance and assignments in both the Public and Private Sectors of the Eastern Cape as well as the Local Government.
“Mgijima brings a wealth of experience in local government having been a support at provincial level. The MBDA has achieved a series of clean and unqualified audit outcomes since inception a record we intend to maintain. Mgijima will assist the Agency maintain and improve this excellent record. I look forward to working with her, I have no doubt she will do a sterling job”, said Adam.
Mgijima said, “I am excited to uphold the integrity of the office by ensuring that the financial, administration and supply chain management functions of the MBDA are effectively managed within the municipal legislative framework.”
It is the first time in the Agency’s 14 years of existence that a black woman occupies such a senior position in the MBDA, a step in the right direction for transformation at this Municipal entity. On transformation, Adam added, “We must ensure that the leadership of this organisation as a whole reflects what the country can be without any compromises.”
