“We received a call from one of our committee members about a lady that had been reported missing in the Lorraine area. I immediately checked our camera footage for the area to see if can find any information useful for our search,” explains Jean Smith, vice chair of the Lorraine Neighbourhood Watch. “

Smith then also contacted the Community Information Centre (CIC) to help in the search for the missing woman. The CIC acts as a central contact for any type of emergency within the Port Elizabeth footprint, and serves as a connection point for various authorities on their network of information sharing. It is operated by Fidelity ADT.

One of the key elements of the CIC is a network of licence plate recognition (LPR) cameras, which uses the latest modern technology to collect data from across the city and help law enforcement and security companies offer a more efficient service for the people of PE.

“I gave CIC operator Senobia van Rensburg the details that I was able to draw from our own cameras, and asked that she check their network for signs of the missing resident,” says Smith.

Ryan Britz, branch manager for Fidelity ADT in Port Elizabeth, is full of praise for Van Rensburg’s key role in finding the missing woman.

“Senobia promptly shared the details with all our security and law enforcement partners. The story has a happy ending, with the woman being safely found a few hours later. It shows the importance of team work and how modern technology has a part to play in keeping the people of PE safe.”

“I would like to thank Senobia on behalf of LNW for absolutely outstanding service and help. She is a very valuable asset and without her and of course Fidelity ADT for sponsoring the cameras, this incident could have had a very bad ending,” says Smith.
