Termination of Mr Anele Qaba’s Employment Contract with MBDA

The Board wishes to inform all stakeholders and members of the Media that the employment of the MBDA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Anele Qaba, has been terminated.
At a Special Board Meeting held on 27 March 2026, the Board resolved to terminate the employment of the CEO on the grounds of material breach, misconduct, and loss of trust. The Board has concluded that the trust relationship has irretrievably broken down, and that continued employment is untenable.
Accordingly, Mr Qaba’s employment with the Agency has been terminated with immediate effect.
The Board fully acknowledges the anxiety and discomfort that this period has imposed on all members of the organisation, partners and stakeholders. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the hard work, professionalism, and resilience demonstrated by staff throughout this challenging time.
We encourage all employees to remain focused and continue directing their efforts toward achieving the Agency’s objectives, as expected by our stakeholders and the citizens of the Metro.
You are therefore informed that, as of 27 March 2026, Mr Qaba is no longer an employee of the Mandela Bay Development Agency. The Board thanks Mr Qaba for his service and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
The Board will, at the appropriate time, communicate the process for appointing a permanent
Chief Executive Officer. In the interim, Mr Unati Peter will continue to serve as Acting Chief
Executive Officer, with the full support of the Board and management.
